The meeting was called to order by Ashok Agrawal at 5:10pm.
Note: Because Ashok had to leave early, the meeting order was taken as presented in these minutes.
Up Coming Programs: Cardinals Baseball Game Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 6:15pm. Bill Stock reported that there were 50 tickets available for members at a cost of $19.00 each. Tickets need to be purchased by August 19th. There was discussion as to having a pre-game party, picnic, tail gate party, etc. The group settled on a tailgate party on a parking lot near the stadium, where there would be a Bar-B-Q starting at 4:00pm consisting of brats, dogs, soda, and beer. Cost will be $5.00 per person. A motion was made by Bob Winship to accept this proposal, seconded and passed.
New Business: Ashok Agrawal introduced a program run by SME called the STEP PROGRAM, designed to encourage and assist middle school girls to become interested in engineering and manufacturing studies. The National SME Office wants to expand this program into the St. Louis metro area and is looking for help from our local chapter. Ashok said that funding for this program is 1/3 SME, 1/3 Girl Scouts (who are also involved with this program), and 1/3 from private donations. The help needed from our local chapter would be in the form of personal involvement by one or more local chapter members to act as liaison between the National Office and the local STEP PROGRAM. No action was take at this time.
General Reports:
- Historian: Bill Stock report that he has invited board members to participate in an inventory of the hard assets owned by the local chapter and stored at his companies building - Microfinish Company in Warrenton. The date was set at June 5, 2005 at 10:00am. His objective is to save and catalog what is important and to trash or give away that which is not.
Note: At this point, the meeting was turned over to Terry Altman as Ashok had to leave.
Approval of Minutes: Bill Stock motioned to have the minutes, as published in the bulletin, approved. The motion was seconded and approved.
Treasurers Report: Parker Mundy reported the Cash balance was $33,844.66, income for April was $10.98, and Expense were $1,796.38. The SMEEF Account stands at $76,000.00, Working Capital at $20,059.26 and the Education Fund at $12,000.00. Total net worth is $32,059.26. Parker also reported a CD was maturing on June 7. Do we roll it over for 24 months or cash it out? Bill Stock motioned that it be rolled over. The motion was seconded and passed. Bruce Herzog asked Parker if we were getting our scheduled payments from SME Headquarters. Parker said we were.
Upcoming Programs:
- June 2,2005 Technical meeting will be on "Machining Hard Metals" presented by Hans Strey of Harding Inc at Sybergs Restaurant at 5:30pm. Parker Mundy made a motion to purchase a speaker’s gift. The motion was seconded and passed.
- June 10, 2005 The National Tooling and Machining Association is having a golf outing. Jim McConnell moved to have the chapter sponsor a hole for $100.00. The motion was seconded and passed.
- Industry Tour is still undecided as to when and where. Bill Stock is looking for help and suggestions on this. Jim McConnell said he would try and line up Briggs & Stratton in Poplar Bluff for a tour sometime between September and November.
- No activities are scheduled for July, 2005.
- No activities are yet scheduled for August.
- September will have the Cardinal Baseball game on September 10th.
- October is the Suppliers Night on October 6th.
General Reports:
- Programs: Steve Baynam reported on calling about 40 members for suggestions on future programs. He also inquired about posting a questionnaire on our web site to solicit program suggestions. Parker Mundy said he would assist him.
- Bulletin: Bob Winship reported that the mailing list for the bulletin has been coordinated with the local membership list.
- Student Chapters: Jim McConnell reported the student chapters are down for the summer. He also reported that Jim Downing is the SME Member Consultant for student chapters.
- There were no other reports made.
Special Projects and Activities:
- Suppliers Night: Bruce Herzog reported that the fliers for the event will be mailed out this next week to potential showers.
Bob Winship motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded and passed.
